Expanding Bums Spark Boom In Big Toilet Seats

There are super-size burgers, XXXL pants and now, according to manufacturers, growing demand for extra large toilet seats.
It appears us Brits are following in the heavy footsteps of our US counterparts and demanding extra large versions of that number one necessity - the toilet seat.

Ellis & Co in Derby have reported that sales of their extra large loo seats have doubled since 2009.

The company imports the "Big John" seats from the States. They can take weights of up to 60 stone and are 19 inches wide - making them 75% larger in surface area than normal toilet seats.

Director Steven Evanson told the Sun: "People are getting bigger, wider and heavier. Why shouldn't they have a comfortable time when they go to the toilet?"

"We tell them, 'Your bums aren't too big - your toilet seat isn't big enough'."

According to a report published in 2007, by the year 2050 60% of men, half of women and a quarter of children will be obese if levels carry on increasing at current rates.

Perhaps it's worth buying a few shares in the company - you heard it here first.
