The mass skinny dip took place on Gower beach at Rhossili to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care and the National Trust.
At 8:30am Sunday morning almost 400 people cast aside their inhibitions and their clothes to plunge into the water and stay in for at least 10 minutes in the hope of claiming the record that previously stood at 250 people.
The event was organised by Bristol-based online publishing editor Alison Powell.
"I thought it would be fun. I wanted to go skinny dipping a while ago with friends and no one would come with me," she said.
"They gave me loads of the excuses like they would do it if it was summer, they would do it if they had a good reason, so I gave them those things."

Organisers said their challenge had yet to be verified by Guinness World Records but had raised more than £13,000 for charity.
