Crowds Line Up at BookHampton for Gwyneth Paltrow Book Signing
BookHampton, our favorite independent book store, had an all star line up this summer of best-selling authors who drew big crowds including many of our personal favorites such as Douglas Preston, one half of the dynamic duo of Preston Childs, Lorenzo Carcaterra (I’m right in the middle of his latest page-turner “Street Boy”), children’s book author Emma Walton, ultimate Hamptons cook Sylvia Lehrer reading from her delightful “Savoring the Hamptons”, the always entertaining chef Katie Lee and troubadour Rufus Wainwright among others. But it was Amagansett’s Gwyneth Paltrow who had lines around the block as she signed copies of her cookbook, “My Father’s Daughter: Delicious, Easy Recipes Celebrating Family and Togetherness”, and answered questions for a standing-room-only crowd at BookHampton’s East Hampton location.

One of our favorite Broadway leading men, Theater World Award winner & star of both “30 Rock” and “Glee”, Cheyenne Jackson took advantage of New York’s Marriage Equality Law and wed his longtime lover Monte Lapka, a physicist on a Hamptons Beach with their dog Zora in attendance over Labor Day weekend. No honeymoon for the happy couple as Cheyenne had to perform in his sold out solo concert at Guild Hall the very next day. He told the audience about his wedding and then sang a love song to Lapka by Coldplay called “The Scientist”.
Cheyenne continues his activism and will be seen in a one-night-only reading of Dustin Lance Black’s (Milk) new play “8” about the efforts to overturn California’s Proposition 8 based on what happened at the trial. The play has already attracted an all-star cast including Morgan Freeman, Anthony Edwards, John Lithgow, Christine Lahti, Rob Reiner, Larry Kramer and Marisa Tomei and two- time Tony Award Winner Joe Mantello will direct.

Powerhouse Vocalist Dylan Jenet Collins Up for 9 Nammy Awards
Several winters ago, we spent one of the most enjoyable evening’s at John McGuire’s now sadly defunct Regular’s Music CafĂ©, the only all year round nightspot in the Hamptons that offered live music every evening. One of the hottest nights each week was the “Kids Kabaret” which allowed the tween set the opportunity to show off their chops to doting moms, dads and grandparents. But one night, we were blown away by ten year old Dylan Jenet Collins who wowed us with her voice, stylings, poise and professionalism.
Since then, the young singer has performed on stage, on film and on television. She was a featured soloist for President Barack Obama at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado; and at the Presidential Neighborhood Inaugural Ball in Washington, DC. Among her many theatre credits are the role of Young Nala in Disney's Broadway Production of The Lion King. An Apollo Theater Star Of Tomorrow Award Winner, Dylan was selected as the Miss New York Junior Pre-teen Queen and was awarded the Urban League Legacy Award for philanthropy and also volunteers for several charities.
Now at only 13 years old, the quadruple threat –singer, songwriter, actress and dancer - Sag Harbor resident and Montaukett Indian Nation member (her native name is "Winter Rain”), has been nominated for a staggering 9 NAMMY Awards. With the release of her CD entitled “Hear Our Prayer”, Dylan is ready to sweep the 2011 Native American Music Awards, to be held at the Seneca Niagara Falls Hotel & Casino in Niagara Falls, NY on Oct. 7, 2011. Dylan’s categories are: Best Song Single, Best Female Artist, Record of the Year, Best POP Song, Best Debut Artist, Best Compilation, Best Gospel/Inspirational, Best Songwriter and Best Producer. Whew! To check out her tunes and cast your vote go to www.NAMMYS.com.

Real Housewives of New York Cleans House
Zarin Back to Hawking Fabrics
The faux socialite, back-stabbing (I have first hand experience), whiny voiced Jill Zarin was shown the door this week by Bravo execs. Also given the bums-rush was the sweet Alex McCord - who should never have lowered herself to this frippery in the first place - model Kelly Killoren Bensimon and Cindy Barshop. According to the Huffington Post, all four women were contacted by Bravo on Thursday morning and had no warning that they were on the chopping block.
Perhaps Zarin can use the free time to take some acting lessons. At a party at John “Bunky” Hearst’s home last summer, the aggressive red-head approached “Inside the Actor’s Studio” host James Lipton and asked him to interview her on his show. Eye witnesses report the ever polite Lipton simply replied, “You’re no actress” before turning back to his conversation.
And then there were three. Original cast members Countess LuAnn De Lesseps and Ramona Singer and recent add Sonja Morgan – will be reportedly joined by three new members. If they don’t work out, word is Bravo might ask one or two of the newly unemployed housewives back to the show. Yeech! God help us.
