'Disasterpiece' Of Mona Lisa Reaches Museum Of Bad Art

Can you tell what it is yet? No, we’re not entirely sure either. These disastrous daubs may be more fit for the bin than a gallery – but they have all found a home in the Museum of Bad Art.
The ‘masterpieces’ on show include a reproduction of the Mona Lisa that would have Da Vinci spinning in his grave and Tables Have Turned, which depicts... erm, something.

The exhibits were found at car boot sales, rescued from bins or donated by astounded art critics.

‘We have very stringent selection criteria, much of it exactly the same as traditional art museums,’ said the attraction’s executive director Louise Reilly Sacco.

‘Works must be original, sincere and interesting. They must communicate, or try to communicate, something. But something must have gone spectacularly wrong, too.

‘It could be an unfortunate subject, overwrought imagery, an experiment in colour, perspective or design that failed or an artist who barely knows which end of the paintbrush is up.’

The museum in Boston, Massachusetts, was opened by Scott Wilson, an art dealer with a love for pieces that are ‘so bad they’re good’. There are now three separate galleries, attracting 8,000 visitors each year.

‘The paintings appear to make people smile because everyone leaves our museums with a huge grin on their face,’ said Ms Reilly Sacco.
‘They understand we love these works and are celebrating them, rather than mocking them.’
