Wildlife DeerThe Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center is a not-for-profit organization fully dedicated to the rehabilitation of wild animals impacted by the encroachment of humans on their habitat. The East End organization known for its expertise on wild animals has provided a slew of fascinating facts and myth-busters most people do not know about their neighboring animals. For example, did you know that osprey can see small fish swimming in murky water from over 100 feet in the air? Did you also know that the popular myth claiming that a mother bird will abandon their young after a human touches them is completely untrue? Well…neither did we!
DID YOU KNOW?
That birds return to the same location each Spring and some even to the same nest?
That mother deer leave their babies alone? Sometimes in places that will seem very strange to you!
That fledgling birds cannot fly for 24-48 hours after they leave the nest?
That Canada geese are monogamous for life?
That the Virginia opossum is North America’s only marsupial?
That gulls are nature’s sanitation crew?
That a snowy owl can hear small creatures digging under a foot of snow?
That osprey can see small fish swimming in murky water from over 100 feet in the air?
That box turtles can live for 100 years?
That in most songbird species, both parents tend to the hatchlings?

ABOUT THE EVELYN ALEXANDER WILDLIFE RESCUE CENTER
The Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of wild animals impacted by encroachment of humans on their habitat. A grass-roots organization, the Center has grown from a few concerned friends to a group today of over 1,000 members and supporters. The Center is a full-time professional wildlife hospital staffed by licensed rehabilitators, biologists, animal behaviorists and volunteers. Located in an area that is a unique and irreplaceable ecosystem, consisting of salt and fresh water wetlands, pine barrens, deciduous forest and meadowland. The hospital at the Wildlife Rescue Center is designed exclusively for wild animals—unlike veterinary hospitals, the space is free of any ambient noises or smells to stress the wildlife that are recovering within.
