Bra-vo 'Revolutionary' Sports Bra For Extra Support

It will be welcome news for sportswomen hoping for a little extra support. Scientists have developed a sports bra which claims to ‘banish the bounce’.
Unlike conventional ‘crop top’ products, the garment encapsulates each breast separately in secure molded cups and claims to reduce movement from all angles.

The creators say the product effectively acts as ‘two hands holding the breasts’ rather than the traditional sports bra, which flattens against the rib cage.

Panache, a lingerie brand which caters for larger-breasted women, spent three years researching the ‘battle of the bounce’ and is now preparing to launch the sports bra in October.

The £35 bra, which will be available in sizes D to H, was the brainchild of head designer Clare Fallon. It was then tested by Loughborough Sports Technology Institute, in Leicestershire.

During their research they monitored the breast movement of a 32E model on a treadmill using 3D motion sensors.

The results found the bra reduced bounce by 83 per cent, compared with a 65 per cent cut by rivals.

Miss Fallon, who has worked for Sheffield-based Panache for 18 years, said: ‘This was probably the hardest bra that I have ever had to design because there were so many elements to it.

‘Most people think designing a bra is just cutting out two triangles and sewing them together – they don’t realise just how much technical work goes into it.’

The pursuit of the perfect sports bra is one shared by millions.

A survey for Panache found 42 per cent felt their sports bra was not adequate for its purpose and more than half experienced breast pain while exercising.

British javelin thrower Goldie Sayers is an ambassador for the bra. She said: ‘A well-fitted bra is essential for any sportswoman with a large bust.’
