Constitution Hall in Washington DC was the site of sheer patriotism and inspiration July 4th weekend as the crowd heard the harrowing life story of Richard Cosby, father of acclaimed TV host Rita Cosby.
The Daughters of The American Revolution presented Richard Cosby with the prestigious Americanism Medal given to a naturalized citizen who’s displayed exemplary leadership, courage and dedication to community and volunteerism.
The elder Cosby joined the Polish Resistance as a teenager in WWII, was taken to a German POW camp and later saved by US troops. In his eloquent acceptance speech before thousands of members of the D.A.R., he discussed the critical role women played in the Resistance, often as messengers and even sharpshooters.
In addition to his famous journalist daughter, also in attendance were distinguished members from the Polish embassy, WWII veterans and other friends. It was truly a spectacular evening honoring a man who survived the unimaginable and epitomizes what it truly means to be an American.
